Well, after probing my mom's brain for specifics, I must adjust the following information.
1. The Simon and Haikal (sp?) families came to Maine around the turn of the century and my dad was born in 1918 in Millinocket, ME.
2. Thomas Bernard Simon, his fathers name in America was James Simon and his wife, Annie Williams. They ARE from Beirut and are Lebanese but changed their names. No wonder, looking at the ignorance and malice the INS displays today I can imagine that ten-fold then.
3. My grandfathers' pre-US name is Haikal (sp?) and I'm searching for a correct spelling.
