Dear Jennifer,
I congratulate You for your interest concerning your roots,
Our first Grand-Father "Geomaa Abou-Nar" (när= fire) came with his family, which was composed from six boys & a girl, from a village named " ayn Halya " =Thus they were called : AL ANAHILA. (from the Syriac language meaning: Ayn=fountain,Halya=Helou,in Arabic = sweet.) located in Syria, on the mid-way of the railroad between Beirut & Damascus , bY the end of the 14th century, to Becharreh, in North Lebanon, where the family growed in number until ruling The city of becharreh and its abouts from 1530 to 1613.
The six boys were :
Youssef = the grand-father of the HELOU Fam.and its branches as Assaf(in Wadi Chahrour Village),Bassoul(in Beirut),Kawkabani,Sader,Bawwab,Khoury-Matheh Helou, Abou rached Helou (in Jezzine),Jamhoury, Maatouk, Fayad, Saab, (in Baabda),Aboufadel-Helou (in Ayn anoub),Habib, Janho, Boutros,(in Beirut),Nakhel,(in Beit-chelala, Batroun),Fayad,(in Zakroun-Koura),Sebaali,(in Mayyasse-Metn)
Kayrouz : from whom were the Kayrouz,Hanna-daher,Makhlouf,Aboufadel,Khoury,AbouMalhab, Ghorayyeb,Baaklini,Diab,Saade, Hedary & Abou Nar.

Yazbec= his branches : Moukawwem, Kassouf, Kiame,Badr, families.
So as You see there are so many branches in our Big, & Great Family.
Back To its Propagation:
The grand-father of The Helou's, Big Branch, left Becharre , by 1613 , to Hisrayel, a village in The Jbeil district,
some of his descendance left Hisrayel, by 1707 to 7 different places : Ghosta ( in the Kesrouwan district) Ayn-enoub (Aley district)Baabda, Wadi-Chahrour, Beirut & Jezzine.
A second migration from Hisrayel to Baabda took place , a third one happened from GHosta , this time, to Baabda , by 1760.
A 4th. emigration took place from Hisrayel to Machta al-Helou in Syria,(in the Alaouite country), then from the machta to Beirut & Tripoli.
To Resume : Al ANAHILA , are Arameans - Syriacs, In Lebanon, they are mostly MARONITES. in Al Machta, the Helous' became Greek Orthodoxe, thus are their above mentionned branches who came back to Leb. as in Tripoli & Beirut.
AL ANAHILA gave Lebanon The First Maronite Saint : CHARBEL MAKHLOUF.
3 Maronites Patriarcs: Youhanna (John)Helou,8/6/1809 till 12.5.1832,Mikhael FADEL 1793-17.5.1795, YOUHANNA MAKHLOUF, June1609-15 dec. 1633.

numeros bishops of all Christian Confessions and deputies, ministers(in The Government), actually Pierre Helou is a deputy in the Leb. Parl. and a minister in the govt.
in Conclusion: we had a big part in building the Lebanon, it is with the swell, tears & blood, over generations , that we struggled to keep our Liberty, Faith & Culture alive, should we succeed to pursue the deeds of our ancestors ?
Best wishes & salutations to you and to your family, have courage , ST. Maron & God bless you. Bassam Farid Abou-Fadel Kairouz Al Anhali.
