Since some time ago I’ve been interested in tracing and knowing better my Lebanese roots. Maybe, I could get in touch with any descendant of my ancestors family in Lebanon.
My great-grandfather came to Colombia-South America from Lebanon more than one hundred years ago. His name was Pablo Antoine (Paul Anthony), and his family name was: Salet or Sahleth, or Saleh or Salem(?), which was converted to the Spanish name Sales after he settled in this country. In July 14 1898 he married to my great-grandmother in Santafe de Bogota and they had 8 children, one of them my grandmother.
Some other information I have about him is that he was born in Beyrouth (I believe between 1860 and 1875), his father was Antoine Salet (?) Haddad and his mother María Ruiz (?). I also know he was catholic and his family at Beyrouth was numerous and owned a property with many horses. He also was a very close friend of another Lebanese immigrant Antoine Amin Turbay born in Tannourine (who was the father of Julio Cesar Turbay who became President of Colombia for the period 1978-1982).
As you can see, I do not even know what was the original family name of my great-grandfather. Maybe it was Salet or Sahleth, or Saleh or Salem, I just do not know. In Colombia there are many Lebanese immigrants, and some of them changed their names to a form easier to pronounce in our native language (Spanish).
I will appreciate any advice and hints about what I could do, or any E-mail of other people that could help me to get some information concerning my ancestors, or to get in contact with their descendants. Maybe there is a Lebanese Genealogy Association or other kind of organization that could help.
I look forward to hear from you.
