I have many ideas. The scenarios are endless. Having nothing known about the parents of Mr. Reynolds, we can only speculate as to what may have motivated the honor of their naming their child after either 1) a Leavenworth or 2) Jesse Leavenworth.
If we proceed along the lines of 1)above, there really is no limit to the possibilities. If we look at 2)above, then the name was given after either Colonel Jesse, son of Mark, Jesse, son of Jesse, or Colonel Jesse, son of Henry, who, though lesser known than the son of Mark, father of Henry, raised one thousand men on the frontier. Any one soldier might have honored their commander as such. I myself, having served in the US Infantry under field Colonel Layfield, very nearly considered naming my son after him, (for he served his men with notably honorable distinction). It certainly is necessary to determine more facts about the parents of Mr. Reynolds in order to continue your search. If I were you, I would try to find some record of the men who served under Jesse, son of Henry.
