James Levell and Agnes Cox Levell of Gallatin, Kentucky
We are trying to find the correct Leavell/Levell family for James Levell who was born in Kentucky about 1807 and lived in Gallatin County Kentucky, likely all his life.We don't know the parents. This James Levell appears in the 1860 Warsaw, Gallatin, Kentucky census with a wife (I presume)named Agnes.
FamilySearch.org has a tree that shows this James Levell and Agnes Cox (born Clark Co., Kentucky) as being married in Gallatin County 17 Sep 1828.Children on the public tree are Emily Levell, born 4 Nov 1834 in Gallatin, Kentucky, Died 6 Sep 1899 in Crawford, Indiana, and buried in English Cemetery in Crawford Co.That tree also shows a son Andrew Anderson Levell, born 1841 in Gallatin and Died abt 1897 in Crawford Co. Indiana.Other child on the tree is Mary Jane Levell, born 1843 in Gallatin. The age is close enough that it might be the Mary Jane of the 1860 census list.
The 1860 Gallatin County Kentucky census shows James (age 53), Agnes (age 51 or 57), Robert (21), Squire (9), and Mary Jane (15).The next two households listed are John Levell (30), Mary E (22), Ann Mary (5), and James S (2).The next adjacent house has a Thomas Levell (23 and Lucinda (20, presumably the wife of Thomas.
We are trying to determine if this Levell family is related to the Leavell family that moved from Kentucky to Indiana and settled around Wayne, Henry, Tipton, and Madison Counties or who these Levells might be related to. They are white.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Janet
