In the book "History of Morrow County, Oregon" The Leathers family, who moved to Oregon from KY. were the descendants, so they have said, of Johann Paullus Leyderer, listed as a "German Immigrant" passenger on the "Johnson Galley", mastered by David Crockett of London. They arrived in Philidelphia 18, Sept.,1732. While a 'Paulus Lederer' is listed in the "German Immigrants" from Rotterdam via London, who arrived in Philly on the 19th. He is also listed as being one of the "List 21B", who signed "The Oath of Allegiance to England". Can anyone give me a hint which one is the 'immigrant' who is related to those 'LEATHERS' who begin with 'John Paulus Leathers of Culpepper, VA.?? He supposedly married Margaret Clove, (in this book), in Culpepper Co.VA.,(ca.1734-35), lived in the Robinson River area, Madison County. In 1787-91 they supposedly moved to KY. There are several 'John Leathers' listed with no info. until John, "the eldest of John Paul & Margaret", B.1736, Orange Co. VA. [Here it just has " 4 more generations" and then begins with 1.Nicholas Leathers B. 1754, Orange Co. VA. 2.Nicholas Leathers, B. 1774, Orange Co. VA.; m. Frances Moore 3. John Leathers, B. 12-03-1802, Franklin Co. KY. m. Rosa Burgine (B. 18-12-1802), on 17-9-1824 at Washington Co. KY. 4. Nicholas Lewis Leathers, B.15-12-1830; Anderson Co., KY. m. Joycy Sarah Munday (B. 17-02-1831), on 24-12-1851, Anderson Co. KY. I realize that this family is of German origins, but which one? 'Johann Paullus Leyderer' or 'Paulus Lederer'??
