Well this is a topic I know an awful lot about.

Leisure and all those other spellings are aberations of Le Sueur.

Le Sueur is the valid French surname: it goes back to at least 1100 AD......

They have their own Shield and Crest........

It comes from the Latin Sutor.......
In French: you do not pronounce the T.......

so it sounds like Suor......

It is a word for one who uses patterns.......
any material........iron, cloth, leather

It actually came out of Burgundy:......close to the Alps..and Belgium

That mid eastern part of France:
and spread

In Belgic and Flemish regions it is spelled Le Sire....and in Paris and Normandy Le Sueur.

Nearly all Le Sueurs were Huguenots........and very famous ones at that........they led the movement.

They were chased out of France to Holland Germany and England as a result.

The ones who ended up in the Lowlands had the spelling a bit twisted to Lezieur or Leisure etc......Lezier.

because that is how the Germanic languages spoke it.....

I can assure you: there is no authentic German version:
it is for certain a French name.

There were a few cases of LeSiers of western France whose name became Leisure as well.....

The LeSiers made up their last name in the 1400s because they thought it sounded impressive.

They are not legitimate Le sueurs.

Le Sueurs ended up in the highest places in French government in particular: some became owners of fiefs and chateaus

Many were involved in investment in Canada in particular
and a large number migrated to Canada....

Others to the USA.....where its nearly always spelled some version of Leisure.

in Canada: its either its original LeSueur or Lozier.....

Hope this helps you out.
