I have been enjoying doing look-ups in Thelma Leasure Marshall's book for a couple of years now. Some of you I have been able to help a great deal and others not at all. I thought it was about time I told you about another resource you may be interested in. Michelle Scarlett of Ravenna, OH, publishes (4 times a year) an "At Leisure with the Leasures" newsletter. The subscription price is $6.00/year, which is Cheap, CHEap, CHEAP!!! As an example, the most recent issues contains: Daughters of Eve--article from about an Oxford University study on 7 ancestral matriarchal groups from which it is theorized all Europeans are descended; West Virginia marriage records (1880s to present), Iowa census records (1838-1870), Leasures in Michigan death records (1971-1996), Pittsfield, MA directory (1889-1893), Janesville, Rock County, WI directory (1931), Leasure Civil War service records, Part I, and Civil War information on the web, as well as some genealogy poems for fun. If you are interested in this newsletter, contact Michelle Scarlett at She will be happy to hear from you. She says, "If you have any suggestions as to a specific location you would like to see more records from, let me know."
