Origin of Leal Surname
My maternal grandfather's mother was a Leal through her father. She was born in Las Lajas, Cuba, circa 1885.
We have been under the impression that the nationality of her Leal ancestors was Spanish, but we are not certain.Since all the parties who would know for certain are deceased, I am left to solve the mystery.Translated to English, Leal means "loyal."
Persons of diverse countries, such as Spain, Scotland, England, and others, bear this surname. I'm curious to find out if it had one specific place of origin and then spread through migration, or if it originated independently in different countries.
Thanks for any information on the subject.
