Hi, I would like to know if you have a lineage which you can share with me in relation to Diego de Montemayor.I think most people are descendent from him who live in the Northeast part of Mexico as there weren't too many people during those days.Of couse, Diego de Montemayor was said to probably be a Portuguese Jew as was his son-in-law and the Rodriguez family from General Bravo are probably descendant from the Montemayor family.Look up Pedro T. Rodriguez and you will find the story. Most people from General Bravo, China and Gachupines (Congregacion Cantu)and other surrounding towns are probably related. There was a lot of intermarriage within a family and also they married into the same families over and over again.I don't think there were too many people then. The history of General Bravo does not mention Sephardic Jews but the author Dr. Hernan Salinas Cantuwrote another book regarding Sepharic Jews.He was from General Bravo and became a medical doctor and practiced in Monterrey. He unfortunately passed away within the past six months and I never got to ask him about the people from the other small towns surrounding Monterrey.I believe he just wrote about the Sephardic Jews in Monterrey. He wrote the first history of General Bravo. He had been my mother's neighbor when she was growing up in General Bravo.Another person who wrote about the history of General Bravo was Jose Guadalupe Hinojosa Cantu. The book by Dr. Salinas is on film at the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City.I asked my mother about certain customs her family had such as lighting candles on Friday nights and she said her family did (Jewish custom) and some other things.Anyway, I hope you reply.
