I do not think that the Ambrose Lea who married a "Frances Wheeler" had a second wife, since he died in 1764 in Amherst County, VA. His will was proved on 5 Nov. 1764. Frances Penn Married her second husband 16 April, 1767 in Amherst County, VA. I think she was a widow at that time. Her will (under the name of Frances Tucker dated 30 Sept. 1808 was proved Jan 1812 in Patrick County, VA. Also the last child born to Ambrose and Frances Penn was born in 1759 (Susannah)
and since Ambrose died five years later I do not think he had a second wife. I could of course be wrong. But if he left Frances Penn and married again it would only be during the five years between the birth of Susannah and his death.
Do you know that Ben Rose in his book on the Leas stated that "There appears to have been two Ambrose Leas before 1800. Ambrose Lea who married Frances Wheeler with John Lea and Z. Rice as bondsmen in 1779 (Caswell Couty NC. Marriage Bonds by Kendall, P. 84) could not have been the Ambrose Lea who married Francis Penn. Since the Ambrose Lea who married Francis Penn was the son of William Lea and Rachel Ambrose. William Lea shows that William's Son Ambrose was dead when he wrote his will in 1770 (Amelia County, VA. Will Book 2X,1761-1771, p. 328: Report of Research P.27). Some people think he is possible that the Ambrose Lea who married Francis Wheeler was a grandson of William Lea not his son, but his name does not appear in any of the record of William's five sons.
