Sorry, but I don't know what the last sentence in your post means "I believe he Alfred was a col." in your message. These boxes are hard to type in.

However, James Hulitt Lea is the younger brother of my great-grandfather, Alfred Latinus Lea. They are the sons of John H. Lea and Virginia Gregory (or Latnae) and their paternal grandparents, (parents of John H.) were named Alfred M. Lea and Sarah Frances. I guess the "Hulitt" is meant to come from "Hewlett".

So, Alfred M. and Sarah Frances, in the 1860 census in De Soto County, Miss. have eight children, including a son, John H.Lea, aged 17 and a M A E Lea, girl, aged 13. In the 1850 census there is a John H. and a Mary A E Lea, both aged 8. So yes, possibly we are related because my great-great grandfather seems to be the brother of your grandmother. Alfred M. Lea was born in North Carolina and Sarah Frances in South Carolina and his parents were named James Lea and Frances Lea, but I don't know her maiden name.

Is that any help?
