Robert Carson Layne is not my direct line, but the direct line of my son-in-law. I'm doing some research for me grandchildren.
I have not been able to find the parents of Robert Carson Layne. In the 1880 Census he is listed as in: Beat 19, Madison, AL., on page 335B, age 28. Father born in VA; Mother born in NC. He was a farm laborer and head of house and had a brother J.H. Lane, age 18 and sister S.M.P. Lane living with him.
In the 1900 Census he is in Precinct No. 3, Somervell, TX. and it lists his birth as 17 Jan. 1852, AL. In 1930 Census he in Scurry Co., TX.,, Precinct 1, District 6.
Robert, d. 21 Oct. 1938, Snyder, Scurry, TX., and is buried in Canyon Cemetery in Scurry Co., TX.
He m. 12 July 1882 in New Hope, Madison, AL., Mary Elizabeth Allen, b. Apr. 1856, TN., dau. of Samuel and Mildred (Harris) Allen.
