This could be a coincidence or luck but I think we might have something here. My family has a hereditary kidney disease. It comes from the Lawyer genes. My grandfather died of kidney failure and my dad had a heart attack just before he was to go on dialysis, and I am on dialysis now myself. I have no kids so it stops here at least in my line.
As far as thier coming to Coles Co., Coles, Cumberland,Clark and Edgar Co.s had overlapping Co. lines until atleast 1834.
I don't know where you live but I am about 70 miles from the cemitarys where most of my family is buried. And in 1 of them there were a lot of stones with Lawyer on them that we couldn't account for. If they were related my guess is John was James nephew or cousin.By some of the dates I have James would have been 18 when John was born.
