Same here.Other Lawson researchers have wondered about the Ball connection.Middle names were often the family name of a grandparent.Ambrose Lawson appears in a Surry County, NC census next to David and Thomas Lawson in 1810.The paper was damaged, but it clearly says xxxrose Lawson, so that could only be Ambrose. What is interesting is that David and Thomas were indexed in both Surry and Stokes County in 1810, but Ambrose was only found in Surry County.Unfortunately, no Balls show up in either Stokes or Surry counties in 1810.However, we do have John, Jesse, George and Moses Ball in 1820 Lee County where Ambrose lived. Unfortunately, the 1820 and 1830 Lee County census is in alphabetical order, so it is impossible to see if they lived next to any Lawsons. In 1840 Lee County there was a Spencer Ball, but he didn't live near any Lawsons. Also, Ambrose lived in Scott County in 1840 and 1850. But there were no Balls there.
