Good news and bad news.... First the bad -- I didn't remember the John Lawson/Mary Irvine connection correctly -- notes are better than memory and I'm looking at Betsy Willis' notes now (about 1978). She said John and Priscilla Lawson (he was son of Mary Lawson "upon the Dan") had a daughter Mary Lawson who married in Halifax Co., 20 Jan 1772 to John Brandon, who died 1799, York Co., SC. They also had a daughter Elizabeth Lawson who married in Halifax Co. 1775 to John Irvin. They also had a son John Lawson, Jr., who died about 1794 in Halifax Co., who married 1782 to his cousin Anne Irvin (daughter of his aunt Mary Lawson and uncle Alexander Irvin). They also had a son Thomas Lawson who died 1788, Halifax Co., who married 1782 to Hannah Fuqua (she married second in 1789, as a widow, to Elisha Dodson) who had two children Smith Lawson and Susanna Lawson. They also had a son Francis Lawson who died 1796 in Halifax Co., leaving a widow Patty (probably "Betty" in their 1791 marriage). They also (and finally) had a daughter Margaret Lawson who married John Fuqua, living in 1798 in Montgomery County, KY.
You can see how I got John Lawson and Mary Irvine confused! Maybe they are there as John Lawson and Anne Irvine -- if I got the names wrong from the worldconnect page you referenced. Anyway, no connection to David Lawson son of Jonas. And John Brandon married Mary the daughter of John and Priscilla Lawson anyway.
The good news! I can help with Tucker Lawson -- I confess (some) responsibility for the Tucker Lawson mess. When Larry King was compiling "Blue Ridge Mountain Kinfolks" in the late 1970's I gave him my research results on our mutual ancestor James Lawson and his parents David Lawson and Winifred Dottson/Dodson. Part of what I passed him was a "conjecture(!)" by Mrs. Ben J. Lamb that Tucker Lawson *might* have been that son of David and Winifred who was born about 1809. Alas, it proved to be wrong and I have been living it down ever since! :-) David and Winifred DID NOT have a son Tucker Lawson, and I take the blame for spreading the falsehood. For sure, Tucker belonged to Thomas and Celia (Hall) Lawson. It is dead cert that Thomas' father was John "Black Eye" Lawson, too -- based on the sale of John BE's 200 acres of land by his heirs John, Thomas, Clement, Patmon, and Letitia Lawson, and Randall Hall, plus some other things that substantiate the relationship. So I figure you are definitely back to John BE. Hassell Gann and others concluded some time ago that John BE was one of the four grandsons of Jonas Lawson who had the 1770 Bedford Co. will -- I am not privy to their reasoning, but will take their word for it unless something comes up to contradict it. (I have looked hard but find nothing to contradict it.)
By the way, some say that John BE Lawson was born 1733, which MUST be based on the coming of tithing age (16 at that time) in 1749 of John Lawson Jr, apparent son of John Lawson and grandson of William Lawson of Falling Creek, VA. BUT THIS CANNOT BE TRUE if John BE Lawson was a grandson of Jonas! So I say we really don't know John BE's birthdate. (Profound silence ensues... :-)
Another by the way, that David Lawson (m Winifred Dodson) you mentioned in connection with Tucker (not his son!) is my ancestor, and the best I have been able to deduce from much looking is that he may have been a cousin of your Thomas (m Celia). David and Winney were married 1794 in Halifax County, where her father William lived for a while -- they moved to Wilkes County, NC, by 1800 when they appeared on that census -- and moved to Stokes County by 1809 (maybe 1808) -- and in the 1810 census they were enumerated consecutively with your Thomas Lawson, and next to Philip Hall (relative to Randall Hall), Isaac Lawson, and another man who seems to be another, older Thomas Lawson (the latter is a tricky interpretation of "unreadable", using the Manufactures Census of 1810 to fill in the blanks). If indeed Thomas was son of John BE Lawson (which he was) and if my David was a cousin of Thomas, then my David could/would have been a son of one of John BE's brothers William, David, or James. So I am on the lookout for any suggestions or data on this, and will be deeply grateful for help. (P.S., I'm not convinced that the James born 1760 to David Lawson and Ann Harvey is this James, either -- there was a grownup, tithable James Lawson in Surry County in 1762 who also could be James the brother of John BE.)
