Rowland Lawson's ancestry is well researched, I understand. To me, the interesting link is John Lawson, asserted to be the father of Jonas Lawson -- this is the first connection I have seen between these two and, who knows, it might be right!
Unfortunately the connection from Jonas' son David (whom we know to be father of John, David, William, and James from Jonas' 1770 will in Bedford County, Va) to John Lawson/Mary Irvine to Mary Lawson/John Brandon is open to question. Researchers seem to identify David's son John as "Black Eye" -- and John "Black Eye" Lawson didn't have a daughter Mary who married John Brandon.
I am straining my memory here, but I believe Betsy Willis and others (decades back) equated this John Lawson (m Mary Irvine) with John the son of Mary Lawson "upon the Dan" who had four known sons (Capt.) Francis, John, William, and David -- all of whom lived in Halifax County, VA, in the middle of the 18th century. The eldest of these brothers, Capt. Francis, had a son John who came of age about 1762, sold his Halifax holdings and moved across the state line to NC -- so this John who married Mary Irvine would had to have been Francis' brother, not a nephew (taking into consideration the birth year of his daughter Mary who married John Brandon).
Additional thoughts welcome.... (I, too, would love to connect to Rowland Lawson and all that lineage! :-)
