I don't know where the Laws comes from in this name. Alexander Laws Smart was born in about 1841 in Upwell, Cambridgeshire, son of Robert Smart born in 1801, also in Upwell. His mother was Mary A from nearby Stedgate. I can't go back any further, but I wonder if she was a Laws.
