Capt. Isaac Lawrence of Canaan, CT was born on Feb 25, 1704-5 in Canaan. He had a brother Daniel. Isaac died at age 88 years on Dec 2, 1793. He was very wealthy, owned several large farms and owned 20 slaves. When Lord Gordon and the earl of Morris toured the Colonies, they stayed at Capt. Lawrence's house. He had eleven children. Isaac was the gradson of John Lawrence of Wisset, England (who arrived in Salem, MA in 1630) and a descendent of Sir Robert lawrence of Ashton Hall, b. about 1150.
He could be the Lawrence that your relative mentioned
Many of this line of Lawrences moved to NY and Canada, so there might be a connection. A have a book, written by my ggfather in 1869, tracing a good deal of the geneology.
