Mary,
Hello!I hope we can make type of connection. This is exactly what I found on the census.See if this sounds familiar...
1880 , Grayson Co., Texas
J.H. Lorance- (I believe this is mispelled).
age 51, white male b., KY.(his parents born in NC).
Elizabeth Lorance- age 38, b. VA (her parents born in VA)
William T. Lorance- age 25, b. KY
Sally Lorance- age 23, b. Ky
John Lorance- age 22, b. KY
David Lorance- age 19, b. KY
Harrison Lorance, age 16, b. KY
Thomas Lorance, age 14, b. KY
Emmitt Lorance, age 6, b. Kansas
Bell Lorance (female), age 3, b. TX
I think this is the right family because my father has always said that his grandfather (Emmitt) was born in Kansas and for some reason he always had KY in his mind also. His mother must have told him that the Lawrence family was originally from KY. Another reason I feel like it is right is because they were in Grayson Co., Texas.I know he lived there because that was where he was married.Emmitt is also an uncommon name and this is the only Emmitt Lawrence I have found on a census. The last reason is because the child named Emmitt is age 6 on the census and would have been born in 1874, the year my g-grandfather was born.Let me know what you think and whether it sounds like I am on the right track.I need to go back to the library and do more research!
