Theophilus revisited! I just found a Theophilus Lawless recorded in Georgia for the first time. This is from the 1832 "Gold Lottery" participants in Habersham Co. (p.314 "Some Georgia County Records Vol. 7" compiled by The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas) Lawless, George W. - Chastains Dist. - 1 draw Lawless, John - Chastains Dist. - 2 draws Lawless, James L. - Chastains Dist. - 2 draws Lawless, Theophilus - Chastains Dist. - 1 draw Theophilus was gone from Georgia records, but is a good candidate for the volunteer soldier who served in Bonham's Co of Chisolm's AL Militia in the Florida War. The action took place 1835-42 and was not part of the War of 1812 as I previously posted. Marriage records for Caddo Parrish LA show that a Theophilus Lawless married Mahala White in 1839. I believe this is the same man found in Smith Co TX in 1850, born abt 1816 in VA. His children were George W. 6, LA; Warren M. 4, LA; Elizabeth M. 2, LA; and Mary 8/12 TX. If Theophilus Lawless of Smith Co TX was born in VA in 1816, it was at a time when many if not most of the Lawless families in GA were already there. Please comment if you have connections to Theophilus Lawless. Notify Administrator about this message?
