Pioneer Jean Soucy-dit-Lavigne
I am attaching my genealogy notes about the earlier Soucy settlers to New France. My line does not go any further but I hope someone enjoys the little that I have. Janet

Generation No. 1
1.Jean1 Soucy-dit-Lavigne was born about 1647 in St. Wulfram, Amiens, Picardie, France, and died Bet. 15 Apr 1677 - 22 Aug 1679 in Île-aux-Grues, QC. He married Jeanne Savonet 10 May 1670 in Ste. Famille de l'Île d'Orléans, QC, daughter of Jacques Savonet and Antoinette Babilette-dit-Parmentier. She was born about 1647 in Paris, Île de France, France, and died 12 Mar 1721 in Rivière Ouelle, Kamouraska, QC.
According to Jette, there was only one Soucy that settled in New France in the mid 1600s.
Notes for Jean Soucy-dit-Lavigne:
He was the son of Claude Soucy and Francoise deVaime, Ceraime or Cevainne, the ancestor Jean Soucy, known as Lavigne, is originating in the Saint-Wulfram parish or St-Vulfran, Abbeville, évêché of Amiens, in the old province of Picardy, in France, of the current department of the Sum.
Jean Soucy arrived on the troop ship L'AIGLE D'OR (the Golden Eagle), from La Rochelle to Québec on 17 August 1665. He was a soldier of the Grand Fontaine Company. His "dit" name was most likely his "non de guerre" ("name of war" or military nickname). This "dit" name would identify the company that he belonged to and was generally passed on to his older son. Lavigne translates to 'the vine'.
On 6 Oct 1669, he had his marriage contract with Madeleine Maréchal annulled. This contract had been drawn up by notary Romain Becquet. Madeleine was also one of the King's Daughters. Later this woman was banished from Montréal for life because of "her scandalous ways". It was quite common to have a marriage contract annulled and it seems that Jean was lucky to have done this.
Jean Soucy died before August 22, 1679, because on this day, his widow Jeanne Sauvenier married Damien Bérubé at Rivière Ouelle.
Notes for Jeanne Savonet:
"King's Daughters", page 517, Jeanne Savonnet was born about 1647 in Paris, the daughter of Jacques Savonnet or Sauvenier and Antoinette Babilette. She came to Canada in 1670, at about age 23.
About 1670, Jeanne married Jean Soucy dit Lavigne on the Île d'Orléans. Though no marriage contract has been found, it is known that Jeanne could not sign her name, but her husband could. Jean Soucy and Jeanne had four children. Jean Soucy dit Lavigne died between 15 April 1677 and 22 August 1679 on the Île-aux-Grues.
On this last date, Jeanne married Damien Bérubé at l'Islet. He and Jeanne settled at Rivière Ouelle and had six children. Damien raised the 4 children from Jeanne's first marriage as well as their own 6. Damien Bérubé died 07 March 1688 and was buried the next day at Rivière Ouelle.
On 07 November 1692, Jeanne married François Miville dit Le Suisse at Rivière Ouelle. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 31 October by notary Genaple.
Jeanne Savonnet died 12 March 1721 at Rivière Ouelle, where she was buried the next day.
Five of her children (with three different husbands) were my 7th great grandparents. They formed 14 loops leading to both my parents.

5. Guillaume2 Soucy-dit-Lavigne (Jean1) was born 05 Apr 1677 in Île aux Grues, QC, and died Bef. 1726 in Unknown, QC. He met Marguerite-Marie Bouchard about 1703 in Unknown, QC, daughter of Michel Bouchard and Marie Trottain. She was born 10 Mar 1674 in Ste. Anne de Beaupré, Montmorency, QC, and died 08 Feb 1724 in Rivière Ouelle, Kamouraska, QC.
Notes for Marguerite-Marie Bouchard:
She was born on 10 March 1674 and baptized on the 16th at Sainte Anne de Beaupre. When she was 19 years old, Marguerite had her first of three illegitimate children, Jean Gagnon, born on 17 Sept. 1693. His father was Jean Gagnon, the son of Jean Gagnon and Marguerite Drouin. Marguerite Bouchard's son Jean Gagnon married Marguerite Marquet in 1722.
Then on 19 Oct.1696, we find her (in the birth information at PRDH) listed as the mother of another illegitimate child. This daughter named Marie Francoise Dubroc, born on 19 October 1696, was baptized at Rivière Ouelle on 25 January 1697. This daughter was the issue of another liaison, with the Bayonnais merchant Pierre Dubroc who, on 30 July 1697 (contract Chambalon), promised to pay Francois Dutertre 300 livres if he agreed to keep the child, raise her and educate her as if she was his own daughter. This child's father is listed only as Dubroc. Marguerite Bouchard's daughter Marie Francoise Dubroc married Alexis Lavoie on 7 Jan. 1724.
On 29 July 1697, Marguerite Bouchard was married for the first time. She married Francois Dutartre. He born in 1670's son of Claude and Marie Giloux, from Saint-Michel d'Angers, Anjou (Maine-et-Loire). He was noted as being at the Hôtel Dieu in Québec City on 17 Nov 1695 at the age of 25. That August, Marguerite found herself pregnant once more. Together Francois and Marguerite had only one child. A son, Francois was born on 11 May 1698. It seems that Marguerite's husband did not stay around for the birth of his son. Jette claims that he left for Old France 12 years before he died there in 1709. This would have put him in Europe in 1697. He never returned to Canada. Their son Francois Dutarte married Marie Gertrude Dube in 1721.
On 21 July 1704 (while her husband was still alive in Old France), Marguerite gave birth to another "Enfant Naturel" (illegitimate child) named Jean Baptiste-dit-Guillaume Soucy. His father was Guillaume Soucy/Lavigne. Their son Jean Baptiste married Catherine Demers/Dumais in 1726.
Life must has been very difficult for Marguerite during those pioneering days in New France (Canada). Her mother died before she turned 8 and her father then married a widow with two young children of her own. Those times were difficult even when ones husband was around to help provide for the family. In order to survive with her children, she may have had to live with her father . She died on 8 Feb. 1724, just one month after her daughter married Alexis Lavoie.
Court Cases
In 1693, Marguerite's father Michel did not hide his shame to see an illegitimate child born to his minor daughter Marguerite. The child was baptized at L'Ancienne-Lorette on 17 September by the Jesuit Michel-Germain de Couvert. He was given the same first name as his father Jean Gagnon. For Michel Bouchard, the matter did not remain there. He demanded reparation from the young man who had seduced his daughter and he sued him until he received satisfaction. The matter was brought to the Provost of Québec who, on 14 November, condemned Gagnon. The latter filed an appeal on the 18th and brought his case before the Sovereign Council which heard it on the 23rd of the same month. The tribunal of the lower court had ordered Gagnon to take care of the child and to feed and raise him in the Catholic and Roman religion until he reached an age to earn his living and learn a trade. Meanwhile, he must pay 20 sols a day to Marguerite Bouchard, in addition to giving alms of 100 sols to the poor of the General-Hospital of Québec and to pay 200 livres in damages to the mother.
The case was continued on 22 December 1693 and 11 January 1694. At that time, the Council ordered the suit be continued "for reasons of crime of Rape and subornation and drugs claimed given to the said Bouchard in order to make her lose the child with which she was pregnant".
During the lawsuits, the child would be entrusted to a nurse to whom Gagnon would provide the necessary clothes in addition to 10 sols daily.
The suit ended on 27 February, in an out-of-court settlement, reached before the notary Chambalon between Michel Bouchard and Gagnons lawyer, Charles Aubert de la Chesnaye. The latter insisted on ending the lawsuits, in order, he said, to terminate the lawsuits. Such continuation, he reasoned, would only serve to destroy Gagnon and use up the parties assets. The agreement provided that Gagnon take charge of the child, have him fed and supported by his nurse until the age of 20, in addition to paying the 230 livres which the lawyer paid to Michel Bouchard in order to put an end to the case.
The last years of Michel Bouchard give us a glimpse of what had become of the man in his new city environment. He was not only a tavern keeper but also a businessman with all the problems which that brought. We see him also fulfilling his religious duties. The unfortunate adventure with his daughter Marguerite being amicably settled, Michel Bouchard went on to live his life in moments of calm interrupted with a few other lawsuits, less important than the other ones. On the first of March 1694, the carpenter Robert Choret had the Sovereign Council intervene to carry out a sentence from the Provost against the tavern-keeper Bouchard from whom he claimed 70 livres for food provided to Marguerite's child for two months and ten days. We know now who kept the child during this time. Settled at Québec since his remarriage to Marguerite Lerouge in 1686, Choret already had a large family of 17 children between two marriages.
Child of Guillaume Soucy-dit-Lavigne and Marguerite-Marie Bouchard is:
24i.Jean-Baptiste-Guilliaume3 Soucy, (illegitimate), born 21 Jul 1704 in Rivière Ouelle, Kamouraska, QC; died 25 Feb 1733 in Laprairie, QC. He married Marie-Catherine Demers/Dumais 18 Jun 1726 in Laprarie, QC; born 24 Jun 1693 in Laprairie, QC; died Bef. 27 Aug 1731 in Unknown, QC.
Notes for Jean-Baptiste-Guilliaume Soucy, (illegitimate):
He was l'enfant naturel (child born out of wedlock) of Guillaume Soucy and Marguerite Bouchard.
