If you can make a more clear connection with Rivard dit Lavigne, I may be able to help you, as I too am a direct descendent of Nicholas Rivard dit Lavigne. Perhaps you could supply any dates which would help. How far back can you go in which known dates are concerned? The Line goes all the way back to France in the 1500's. Nicholas Rivard is the first of the line to come to the new world in the late 1500's and settled in New France (Nova Scotia)where he sired 9 children. The 5 males took on diferent names and became dit Lavignes. Only one male kept the Rivard name but also became "dit" Lavigne. That is where we all come from. It is too lengthy to go thru here, but contact me direct at lostgull@sover.net and I will be able to supply more information. "dit" means "also known as" Looking forward to hearing from you. By the way, my name is Joseph R Lavigne.
