Louise (Louisa), Margarette (Marguerite) and Agnes are effectively frequently used names in Québec. I've read so many posts recently that I probably mixed them up with another family. Reading the biography of Charles Chiniqui who was involved in the settlement of French-Canadian families in IL. we learn that some advertisements were made in the papers of Montreal by French-Canadian catholic priests to invite young men and young families to this part of the USA where they were (unrealistically) dreaming of a French state. The families here were so large that it was impossible for every young man to have his own farm. Most families have had their uncle from the States. "L'oncle des États". Some have become rich and were ostensibly showing off their wealth when they were coming back to visit their relatives. Thus perpetuating the American dream. My own paternal grandfather Adélard Lavergne worked for a few years in the coal mines of Pennsylvania before he came back, bought a piece of land, built a house and then got married... and raised 11 children. The last one, Alice, passed away 3 months ago at over 100 years old. I wish you the best. Raymond Notify Administrator about this message?
