Yes, that is why I was puzzled about Antoine & Matilde Louise (Blouin)Lavergne going to Louisiana. Your question has made me question what was told to me by my husband's aunt that they had gone to Louisiana and came back up to Illinois where Matilde died at Kankakee on 16 Aug 1858. She's buried at the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Cemetery. She apparently died in childbirth. Mrs. Tollar had just said they were French-Canadian but she didn't seem to know anything more about them. Her sister is the one who told us the story of them going to Louisiana first. I have never found any record that supports that. And the girls were born in Canada. Now I'm thinking that Aunt Louise heard this from one of the grandmothers as a little girl and perhaps the subject was of the group of F-C who had been in LA and came back to IL and established the parish there. It's very possible that Antoine and Matilde simply joined that group there, possibly other family members who were coming back from LA. After Matilde's death in 1858 three of their girls were living with other families ( 2 Herbert & Simoneau), Agnes 6, Domithilde 7 and Louise on the 1860 Iroquois Co., IL census. I have four names and wonder if the 4th is possibly a middle name for either Louise/Louisa or Domitilde. I didn't find Domitilde on a Wisconsin census or marriage record but the others were married in Marathon County. Mary/Marie Agnes Lavergne m. Frank Wollenschlaeger (she met in IL) on 4 Aug 1879. The family were later known as Wolstlair. She was called by each of the three given names, b. 1854 in Canada, is buried at St. Paul's cemetery, Mosinee, WI. Louisa Lavergne married Mathias Mess (also met in IL) on 20 Nov 1870. b 3 Sept 1856 ?IL, d 18 Nov 1912, buried St. Mary's cemetery, Marathon, WI. Margarette Lavergne m.
