Hi! Loudene. I don't know why Antoine and Matilde emigrated to Louisiana and to the Illinois region. One could probably trace him back by searching into legal documents. Marriage, act of death, property acquisition or disposition?

In the 1800's, many French Canadians emigrated to the USA. Most of them to find work in the New England cotton factories.

Some parishes were founded by French Canadians in the Illinois region. Is it possible to find some infos from their registers???

For example, Ste-Anne of Kankakee, I think, was founded by famous catholic father Ernest Chiniqui, who later abandoned the catholic faith to become a protestant preacher. A google search of Chiniqui gives hundreds of references.

Back to Antoine, the infos were taken from this link:

Unfortunately, it's written in French. Maybe someone knowing French could help you if you don't know the language.

You will see that some cousins and uncles responded to the name of Antoine. Yours is well identified by the name of his wife. I wish you the best of luck and patience to go further in your researches.
