New here. My ancestor came to Quebec in 1665 with the Carignon Regiment fron France. His name was Louis Le Buis (sometimes spelled Bouy)and he was from St. Jean de Cole, France. He took the name LaVergne as a "nom de guerre" He was known as Louis Le Buis dit LaVergne...his children changed it to LaVergne. He married Denise Anthoine who was a Filles de Roy and was from Paris. They lived all around the Montreal area and my line came to Northern Ohio from St. Poly Carpe, PQ about the time of the civil war. The family was also involved in the fur trade. Other names in the family are Ranger, Boutron, Brabant, Cree, Blondin, Meloche, Berthiame, Gougeon, Proteau, Lalonde to name a few. I know our history and am trying to find some cousins out there.
