hi all- seems all the Lavelle men liked to disappear from the records... I'm looking for William's son, John Henry Lavelle... What we have: his birth certificate, Nov. 11, 1887, parents Clara Ericksen and William A. Lavelle, his birth name was William, later changed to John Henry, in New York. He's on the 1900 and 1910 census records with Clara, then nothing after that.(the 1910 spelling of Lavelle is Levelle I think) We have his WWI registration, where he's listed as single, no children, though we know he had a son, James Ivan Lavelle(1909-1976), who lived with his grandmother after his aunt died, who helped raise him. He worked as an electrician in Buffalo, NY. I haven't been able to find any proof that he actually was in WWI, though my inlaws think they have a photo of him in military uniform from a family album, though it isn't labelled. We can't find him after the registration in 1916, I've asked for help from the city-directories list on rootsweb, to try and find him after 1916, but nothing definite yet. Maybe some hits in the late 20s. His son was born in an unwed mother's home in New York, and we believe the mother(Louise Tietjen) and her sister(Martha Clara Cox) died in the early teens, TB possibly, we're not sure. We found two names that match up pretty well on the ItalianGen site. The mother took the name Lavelle, though no proof of any marriage between Louise and John Henry. Any help is deeply appreciated. :) (and I did look on Ancestry this weekend, with no luck, maybe you guys can have better luck) many thanks! Kate Notify Administrator about this message?
