Hi Kevin, I would be most happy to take you up on your generous offer re genealogy & Belmullet. My great grandparents emigrated from Belmullet around 1850. I don't have specific dates. My great grandmother was Hanna(h) Dean(about 16 yrs old) who departed Belmullet with her younger brother James & arrived at the port of New York City. She worked there for a few yrs as a nanny. Thereafter, she married Michael Carey who also had lived in Belmullet before travelling to the U.S. They lived for a short time after their marriage in the mining village of William Penn, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Michael was injured in the mines & found employment in Centralia, PA as a trolley car conductor. The family moved to Centralia. Years later my great grandmother died & her husband, Michael Carey & his 4 daughters(Mary, Margaret, Catherine & Ella) moved to Girardville, PA, where he died & his youngest daughter, Ella, lived the remainder of her life until passing away just 6 mos. ago at the grand(her favorite word) age of 103. In 1993 my husband & I planned our first trip to Ireland & I asked Aunt Ella if her mother had ever mentioned any particular location when she was a child. She responded that her mother always said "oh, to visit Belmullet again." That's all I have....no definite dates or documentation. However, I would be thrilled to hear any information that you believe could be relevant about the Dean & Carey families that have lived or are still living in Belmullet & the surrounding area. Sincere thanks for your kind offer & have a wonderful Easter weekend, Ann Marie Corrigan grimsby@ptdprolog.net Notify Administrator about this message?
