There is a persistant rumor in my family that Calixta Lavallee is the father of Mathilde but I DO NOT believe this is so...... because my grandfather Polidore was born 17 Nov 1877 to Mathilde and Joseph
Gauthier. Calixte was married 21 Dec 1867. I can find no record of a previous marriage for him and my grandfather was not the oldest child in the family.
About 20 years ago a family tree sheet was passed around in our family that had a inked in note next to Mathilde's name 'her father Calixte Lavallee wrote "O Canada" I have not been able to find out who added this note to the tree. This tree also included a 'direct line of the Gauthier's to France' and ended
with Ignace Gauthier.. so it is not hard to figure the source of that information. I spent years looking for Ignace before I found out enough to know that it was a error.
If any other decendants of Jospeh Gauthier and Mathilde Lavallee read this please contact me. I would like to get to the bottom of this and have our genealogy accurate. All record I can find say Calixte had 4 SONS.
