Don't know if this will be much help to you or not but maybe someone else out there can tie it up for you - The only Laughlins which I have connected to WI are from one family - boys names would be Authur Durley Laughin and Anthony White Laughlin - they were twins who were born in 1814. Their sister Margaret Mary Laughlin married George S. Nichols in Grant Co., WI and died there in 1855. Grant Co., WI is just a couple of counties further west than your columbia (at least today from the map I looked up). This family would have moved up from Ky > Ill > WI as they moved further west - they were the children of John Lewis Laughlin and Charlotte Durley. I do not have any children listed for them in my data base but someone out there might or you might find them in the 1850 cencus listed with their children.
