Caroline Pfaun Lauer, German immigrant, mid 1800's

Seeking information to confirm or refute a hypothesis concerning a German immigrant woman named Caroline Pfaun Lauer. It is known that Caroline married Charles Lauer who died in NYC in 1872. Two years later in 1874 she married John Haingartner of Philadelphia and the couple had one daughter Carrie Haingartner. Caroline died on Feb 11, 1917 in Philadelphia.

The hypothesis is that in 1866 Caroline also had a daughter by Charles Lauer who was named Emma, and Emma was put out for adoption after Charles died. It is also hypothesized that Emma was adopted by George M. Palmer, another German immigrant, who was a Philadelphia baker in the late 1800's. Both Emma and Carrie (half sisters?) ended up marrying the same man - Erwein C. Bausch, my great grandfather. Can anyone help me find a source that shows the Lauer family including Emma together?
