Thanks for the hints. I'll try to contact the war museum.
His date of birth appears from the URL included in the original message. It is 17 October 1874.
The problem is that Eglit in one of the US census claims he born in Finland and both parents were Finnish born and spoke Finnish.
To this I can find only two explanations.
One is that the family had been living in Finland for some generations and that his mother moved to Latvia. The name Eglit did exist in Viborg that in that time was Finnish and was a very international town.
The other is that the family was Finnish but at some point moved to Latvia and had their name changed.
