I am interested in information concerning Osip Puczinsky (Joseph Puchinsky) and Vera Franiak.
Osip Puczinsky is from the town of Ustje in the Vilna District (Gubernia), according to Ellis Island records. Ustje, Latvia is 145.5 miles ESE of Riga. I do not know if this is the right Ustje, All other records I have indicate that Osip is from Wilno or Vilna, Poland or Russia.
Vera daughter of Andrzej Franiak is from Kaziany (or Kozyany), according to Ellis Island records and Declaration of Intent. Kaziany, Belarus is located 100 miles NNW of Minsk near the border of Lithuania, and I think was also in the Vilna District (Gubernia). Osip married Vera on Dec 1912 at Kaziany. Then, Osip sailed from Libau on Sept 30, 1913 on the "Kursk", arriving at Ellis Island on Oct 12, 1913. With married name Puczinska, Vera sailed from Hamburg on June 12, 1914 on the "President Lincoln" arriving at Ellis Island on June 23, there being reunited with Osip.
In America Osip Puczinsky became Joseph Puchinsky, and Vera frequently used the name Mary. Their original address was 10 Lewis Street, New York, NY according to the Ellis Island records. In the 1920 census they are listed as Joe and Mary Pochinski, residing at 382 Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ. In his World War 2 draft card he appears as Joseph Maxine Puchinsky living at 68 Van Reypen Street, Jersey City, NJ. They attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Bayonne, NJ while living in Bayonne.
