Hello John,
Your family may be from Europe or from the US. The name of Lattimer/Lattimore originates from Europe. They migrated from Europe to the US and the family grew. Some of the Lattimores became slave holders. Frequently slaves took on the last name of their slave owning family so there are African American/ Black branches of Lattimores. Do you have any information about your ancestry? I'm going to attempt to post another message about the Lattimore family crest and origins.
