1911 photo of Elda Latta, Morning Sun, IA

I purchased the subject RPPC (Real Photo Post Card) today at the Alameda Historical Museum gift shop, Alameda, CA. It was sent by Elda to Miss Marjorie Tharp, 534 Newton St., Waterloo, IA, postmarked Morning Sun, 6 Dec 1911. In her message, Elda states, "Neill took this picture of me."

Although Elda did not give her name, the only Elda I could find in the U.S. Census data for Morning Sun, IA, that closely matched the age of the teenage girl in the photo, is Elda M. Latta, born about 1895 in IA, daughter of James K. Latta and Eva Upson (see also www.latta.org web site, Branch 29, Individual 145). By the time of the 1920 U.S. Census, Elda was 25 years old and married to Walter C. Weinrich, but she still resided in Morning Sun. The Iowa State Census conducted in 1925 lists the Weinrich couple as residing in Des Moines, Iowa.
