Alice Latta Smith and Henry Frank Smith were my grandparents. My "Maumaw and Dear" had one child,a son named Henry Frank Smith,Jr. He was born at six months and died 2 days later. My father was an orphan of friends. They took Dad in and wanted to legally adopt him. He wanted this also. Dad was a troubled youth as a result of his birth family. Dad ran away and underage joined the army. Maumaw and Dear remained Dad's parents forever and I was named Alice for Maumaw at her insistence with my parents feeling honored to do so.Maumaw was still trying to adopt Dad abt [1970?]. He decided the red tape was too much. We all did a "You are my son, mother, grandmother regardless". We had always done this thru the years. She is my grandmother and have always thought of the Lattas and Smiths as my relations. Info on the death certificate is wrong. Her father was Andrew Jackson Latta b 7 May 1829 York Dist,S.C.,son of John Latta and Sp Jane Starr. Maumaws mother was Sarah Ann [May] Weaver b 13 Jan 1845 Clarksville, Johnson Co.,Ark; dau of Lt.Col.John May and Sp Caroline Ryan. When Sarah Ann [May] Weaver married Andrew Jackson Latta she was a widow. Interesting note:I am 48 yrs old. If my grandparents were alive today; Maumaw would be 120 yrs old, Dear would be 130 yrs old. They were the sweetest, kindest, dearest, loveliest people and I could ill afford to lose them. When Alice Latta and H.Frank Smith married in 1921; for the first and only marriage for both of them; she was 40 yrs old and he was 50 yrs old. If you do not mind,I would love to have the death certificate, thank you! I also, need to have the death certificate corrected! Also, wonder if the Lattas mind my doing Latta genealogy. Have info from my grandmother to contribute. Am not able to do more than dabble right now as I am diabetic and not doing well. Thank You!
