I know I'm related to Jean Latourrette, supposedly a Count in the Osse-en-Aspe region of France who came to America with his wife and family. I believe they settled in New Jersey first, before heading to New York where the family stayed. There is apparently a Latourrette Park somewhere in NJ, that he created for his wife, Marie Mercereau.
After reading a little, the whole 'Count' thing appears to just be a myth, but I know the family fled France because of religious persecution for being Protestant and came here in the 16/1700's. I swear seeing that they came to New Jersey first and stayed some time before moving on to New York.
I'm not sure if that was helpful at all, but I figured I'd throw the info out there. Your relatives may have been their relatives or children... or maybe a different family altogether with a coincidental surname! Who knows?
