Hi John: Thanks for your observations. La Coste: Is it related in anyway to the people after whom the village in the Luberon is named? I mean the village where de Sade had his castle. I have been through that area many times because of my university's affiliation with the Institute for American Universities located in Aix-en-Provence and Avignon and the University of Avignon. I am still not sure of your answer on the location of the La Tourette castle which you found in ruins close to Osse-en-Bearn. Jacobs wrote to me in the 1950's and described the location as being "21 miles inland from Biarritz and but three miles north from the border of Spain: it is situated at the fork of the river Niveo." She indicated she was in correspondence with a lady in Osse who knew some of the La Tourette history and sent me copies of pictures of the village which the lady had forwarded. When I went to that Osse (s )( 21 miles from Biarritz ) the pictures didn't match and a native there told me they were likely pictures of Osse -en-Aspe. So I went to the latter about another good 70 miles inland and found Osse-en-Aspe along a road going south of Pau over the mountains into Spain. This village matched the pictures and there was a Protestant church there which had been rebuilt soon after the French Revolution( 1792 or 93 ). My son in our next trip to this particular village learned that the church, records and its graveyard had been destroyed after the Edit of Nantes was revoked in 1685. So I have always wondered about the exact location. When you mean Osse near the coast do you mean the one originally described by Jacobs and where you found the castle ( chateau ) in ruins? The one which now looks like a Basque village and is called Osses? The one in the Aspe valley has the traditional gray stone look of old French villages, whereas the one I refer to as Osses ( 21 miles inland ) has white -washed buildings generally with red tile roofs. Thanks for your lineage. I have some info down to Paul ( 1737-1827 )and his son John, but nothing beyond that to check William's wife. I know one branch of the family ended up in Vestal NY( near Binghamton where I was with the State University of New York for 15 years )moving from Woodbridge, N.J. in the late 1700's or early 1800's, but I think that was out of Henry's lineage. Sorry not much help on that. My linage is Jean - Pierre ( Peter )- David - Peter- Garret -Andrew Thompson- John D. - John Crater ( my father ) and me John Ernest( born 11/5/32 ) Do you have the correct dates on Pierre? I think his date of birth is likely 11/22/1697 but I have seen 11/26 and even 1698. Also, all I have on his death is Jan 1754 and marriage date of 1725 to Marianne Mercereaux who was born on 10/31/1699. That is all I have on her. Where are your histories available? Best wishes John
