EBENEZER CROCKER
The subject of this brief memoir was born in Barnstable, Massachusetts, July 20, 1772; and was united in marriage to Abigail Lothrop September 29, 1797. In March, 1798, they both consecrated themselves to the service of God, joined the Presbyterian Church and remained acceptable members until death. On the 10th of November, 1849, the bond that for 52 years had bound them together in all the sacred endearments of conjugal life was sundered, and Mother Crocker was called to participate in the glorious reward of those "who die in the Lord." In the year 1804, he was made Deacon of the church, which relation he sustained at the time of his death.
Very soon after the decease of his wife, a visible change took place in his health - the last tie to earth seemed to have been broken, and he too looked with longing to that "rest that remains to the people of God." About the first of December, his strength began to fail and he "worn by slowly rolling years," gradually sunk away until the 30th of June, when, without a struggle he calmly "fell asleep."
Thus lived and thus died, Ebenezer Crocker, who has gone to realize that excellent promise that "Where I am, there shall my servants be to behold my glory."

The Daily Alton [Illinois] Telegraph, 9 Apr 1853:
"...
FINAL SETTLEMENT.--Notice is hereby given, that the undersigned, administrator of the estate of Ebenezer Crocker, deceased, will apply to the County Court of Madison county, Illinois, on the third Monday in the month of MAY, 1853, for a final settlement of said estate at which time and place, all persons having claims against said estate are hereby notified to attend and present the same for adjustment. All persons indebted to said estate, are requested to make immediate payment to
C. W. CROCKER, Adm.

The Alton Telegraph and Democratic Review, 23 Nov. 1849, p. 3:
"...In Edwardsville, on the morning of Saturday Nov. 10, Mrs. Abigail, wife of Mr. Ebenezer Crocker, in the 75th year of her age.
Mrs. Crocker was possessed of an unusually kind and amiable disposition, which was rendered still more lovely by the chastening and sanctifying influence of Divine Grace. For more than fifty years, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and manifested, by a consistent life and godly conversation, the sincerity of her profession of attachment to her Lord and Redeemer. For several months previous to her death, her health was feeble; and frequent illness reminded her that the journey of life would soon be ended. But the prospect of death awakened no fears in her mind. She was sensible of her unworthiness in the sight of God; but was enabled to repose, with humble confidence, in Christ, and expressed her desire to "be found in Him, not having her own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith." Her death was calm and peaceful and of her, it may be said, that she came to her "grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season."--Com..."
