Dear Friends,
I have posted on this subject several years ago, but thought I'd try again in the event anyone might see it who can help. My great grandfather was James Preston Lasley/Leslie/Lassley. He was born probably in KY ca 1934 and married Sarah Jane Austin in Posey Co., IN in 1855. He died in TX at the end of the Civil War. He was illiterate. I have a rootsweb family tree at:

I have been at a brick wall for years trying to find James Preston Lasley prior to 1855. There are several censuses in KY in 1850 where a James Lasley of ca 16 years of age appears, but I've never been able to determine if any of these are the "right" James Lasley. I would dearly love to be able to tie my Lasley line into some of the more complete Lasley lines that many of you have, but so far I have not been able to do so. I always hope to come across someone for whom any of this rings a bell or from whom I might find some additional information.
