Obit: Rudolph A. LaRochelle b.1913 Millinocket, ME
WINTHROP, ME -- Rudolph A. LaRochelle, 92, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.
Rudolph was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Millinocket, son of Archie and Laura (Corbin) LaRochelle.
During his life he was a farmer, letter carrier and owner of a variety store and lunch counter on the corner of Water and Bond Streets in Augusta. He was well known for his bartending at the Lancey House in Pittsfield and the Augusta House in Augusta as well as the Fisherman's Wharf in Boothbay Harbor for 20 years. Rudy also worked for the Shipped Wrecked Inn in Fort Myers, Fla., the Branding Iron and American Legion in Winthrop.
He enjoyed endless hours in his vegetable garden each season, being especially skillful at raising luscious raspberries and fine ripe tomatoes which were always his favorite, cooking at family gatherings, especially clam bakes and working on his home.
Rudy was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Cool); three brothers, Edward, Louis and Leo; three sisters Alice, Edna and Louise.
He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Seavey and her husband, Howard, of Newport; his two sons, Senior Master Sgt. (Ret.) Tracy LaRochelle, a 28-year veteran of the Air Force of Glen Burnie, Md., and Dale LaRochelle and wife, Suzanne, of Winthrop; three sisters, Hilda Peppin of Great Falls, Va., Yvonne Lombardi of East Waterboro and Marie Heffren and husband, Vaughn, of Barefoot Bay, Fla. He has six grandchildren, Kym Dunton and husband, Galen, of Amelia Island, Fla., Jim Seavey and wife, Peggy, of Newport, Kelly Jewell of Newport, and Jake, Mathew, and Julia LaRochelle of Winthrop; six great-grandchildren Josh, Jared and Jake Dunton, all of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alex, Caitlin Jewel and Kristen Seavey, all of Newport; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday immediately followed by a service at the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, with the Rev. Blanchette officiating.
