Hi Beth,
James, Martha, and Richard were extremely popular names in the LaRoche family during the 1850's. You already have info. on the branch that moved to FL so I'll tell you a little about those that stayed in SC.
James LaRoche (1764-1793) married Ann "Nancy" Jenkins (c.1765-1846). Their children were Annis, John (1786-1840), Richard(1788-1846), Joseph, and Martha Sarah (1793-1884)who married Richard Jenkins. John married Sarah Baily. Their surviving children were John James (1821-1904), Edward, Richard J.(1823-1878)my great grandfather, Martha Phoebe (b. 1825) Abigail, and Elizabeth. Richard (1788-1846) married Martha Seabrook Jenkins.Their children were John Julius, Elizabeth Frances, Richard J.(1820-1893), James (1823-1899)who moved to FL, Mary Amarinthia Sarah, Daniel, and Edward who married Martha Sarah Jenkins (d. 1910).
So there are several possibilities for your census names.Do you know if these people were residents of Johns Island or lived in St Paul on Toogadoo Creek. If you can tell me what names they are near on the census I may be able to narrow down the possibilities.
Hope this helps.
