Which children did Edward raise of John's?I have a bible of John's that he received when he came over from England and there is a woman's handwriting in there, which I believe to be Elizabeth's writing, with all of his childrens birthdates and 2 death dates. Two died in Illinois in 1864.Jessie's birthdate of 1865 and Linden's birthdate in 1867 were listed, so that indicates to me that Elizabeth must have died before Jessie did, because we list him dying around 1870 in Southeast Nebraska.Elizabeth died in Columbus, Ne around 1870 and records indicate that Linden was living with his fatherin Platte County, Nebraska around that time.
I don't think he was the John Riley that served in the military, as far as I can tell he never had to serve and he continued to livein Columbus, Nebraska after Elizabeth's deathuntil he was 77 years old after marrying my great grandmother in 1910 in Columbus, Nebraska, and is buried in Columbus, NebraskaThe John Riley listed on the monument is not he.
I'm wondering if the John and James Riley that were Methodist ministers weren't maybe his father and other brother.People have indicated to me that their ancestors mentioned that John was a Irish Orangeman. By accounts of his demeanor, I can't believe he could be a m
