I have never seen the James Larkins referred to in Lancaster Co., PA in 1810.Only one, James Larkins in Sommerset Co., PA.Until 1850, only heads of households were listed on the cencus' along with how many males and females. In Turkey Foot Twp., Sommerset Co., PA in 1810, we can match James and Catherine Gerlinger Larkins and their children within those age groups. There was a James Larkin (no "S" on the end) from Virginia who was in the Revolution War also, he was about 20 years older than James Larkins from Sommerset, PA.The following information refers to only James Larkins married to Catherine Gerlinger, a widow. They were married 3 Jul 1783 in Lancaster, PA.This information is given after their death by their daughter Elizabeth "Betsy" Larkins Cook when she is applying for her father's pension in 1856. She was living in Wyandott Co., Ohio.
The following website is very helpful.Christine Henderson, (who traces to James & Catherine's son James Larkins who dies in 1864 Illinois) added information she gathering when she joined the DAR.

Here are some additional sources:
In 1820, James Larkins appears in Harrison Co., Ohio court to apply for his pension. He lists the battles fought in and was in Col. Moyland's Pennsylvania IV Dragoons. He has two sons and a daughter at home who's ages match Thomas Calvin (my ancestor), John and Elizabeth. In the 1820 cencus for Ohio, James Jr., Seth, and William E. are living in Ohio.He says he was a tailor by trade, but his eyesight is too bad to continue to work.He lists his age as 61, making him born about 1758.Per Claims of early 1800's, U.S. House of Representatives Private Claims Vol 2, James Larkins seeks compensation for making clothing for Revolutionary Army.
In 1814, Sommerset Co., PA a Felix Duffel and Thomas Little appear before John Mitchell, JP to swear they were in the same troup as James Larkins and personally present when he was wounded in January 1782.If you look on the IV Dragoons website above, it lists these two men also. Also in 1814, Sommerset Co., PA, Capt. Wiliam Paul of the 10th Regm, 1st Brigade of the 12th Div of the PA Militia appears before John Mitchell, JP and says he's a near neighbor of James Larkins.I think this is pretty strong proof that the James Larkins of Sommerset Co., PA is the James Larkins who dies in Cadiz, Harrison Co., Ohio in 1828 and married to Catherine Gerlinger.
Per the U.S. Pension Rolls of 1835, James Larkins (R6167) enlisted in Maryland, resided in Ohio, his wife was Catherine.
Tennessee became a state 1 Jun 1796, prior to that, it was the Southwest Territory. This may seem a trivial point, but if William E. was born in 1794, it wasn't Tennessee yet.By 1820 he's in Perry Co., Ohio living next door to his father-in-law Jeremiah Reed.
This has been a hard family to put together and there's alot of us trying to do that.I know one of Rosalee's problems with William E. being the son of James and Catherine was the marriage to Luesa Packer in 1836.The proof that William Lakin (and not Larkins) married Luesa Packer in Harrison Co., Ohio should remove that obstacle.
