Joseph C. and Margaret LARIVIERE in Montreal 1847

I've finally followed my ancestral line up to the immigrant Joseph C. Larivere, which was Americanized to Rivers. He was evidently married to a Margaret (don't know maiden name). My father told me that their son, Augustus was born in Montreal on 14 Nov 1847.

A middle name of Clermont seems common through some of the men in the family. One of Joseph's descendants had a first name of Clement. Could that be a derivation of Clermont?

I'm clueless when it comes to reading French and really don't know how to go about crossing the line into Canadian genealogy sources. Any suggestions?
