You might try looking up ACGS.org on the internet ; The ACGS located in Manchester,NH has an extensive library of books and other info both from civil & church records of french canadian immigrants to the US.
You should have mom & dad's and grandparents info to begin with.
( Birth & marriage places & dates etc.) from there someone should be able to guide you onward.
I do not think we come from the same line of Laplantes, there were at least three different lines that arrived in French Canada from France before my earliest direct ancestor got there in the 1750's.
