LAPLANTE_Raymond Hilliard passed away on January 30, 2006, at 86 years. Raymond (Mushoom) was born on the Kawacatoose First Nation on December 4, 1919. He was predeceased by his father Mike, mother Hazel, sister Emma, brother Henry and a sibling in infancy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Anne, brother Mike, and sisters Helen, Emily and Evelyn, children: Catherina (Sam), Merv (Gloria), Myrna, Bryan, Reg (Lyla), Dennis (Reema), Glen, Brenda (Clayton), Linda (Ken), and Debbie and 30 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Ray spent his early years at the Muskowekwan Residential School. He joined the Regina Rifle Regiment and served in World War II from 1939-1945. Upon his return from active service, Raymond worked at a variety of labour positions. In 1950, he married Anne Kinequon from Day Star First Nation. He purchased the family farm near Edgebrook and lived there up to his passing. Mixed farming and his love for animals were his passions. He volunteered for many years with the Metis Society of Saskatchewan and made annual trips to Back to Batoche. He also enjoyed reading, fiddle music, watching the National News and his favorite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers. Friends, family, including many grandchildren loved to gather and visit at the family farm. He will be sadly missed by all of those close to him. In celebration of his life there will be a viewing and visitation at 7pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Narfason's Funeral Home, Wynyard. The traditional wake and funeral service will be held at Kawacatoose First Nation Gym. Wake 4:00pm, Thursday, February 2, 2006, funeral service 11:00am, Friday, February 3, 2006.
