Peter LAPE is the pro-genitor of Gregory Peter LANTAY's LAPE surname ancestry which has benn throughly documented back to early 1800 Fayette County. The PETER LAPE FAMILY was a poor family that worked together as day laborers wherever work could be found which necessitated having to move back and forth in the triangle of Fayette, Somerset & Westmoreland Counties during Peter's entire life time.

My Great-Great-Great-Great grandparents Peter & Maria LAPE gave birth to twelve (12) children starting with Michael the eldest, William, Benjamin, Mary, Lovina, Jacob, George, Henry, Abraham, Phillip, Mary and finally Samuel.

Susannah (LINT) (my great great great grandmother) had met and courted Johann Jacob (ISREAL) LAPE while he was working in Somerset with several of his brother picking fruit off James LINT's fruit trees. Susannah LINT today (November 12, 2008) still rests in peace beside her husband Jacob in a shared grave situated within the Fairfield Church Cemetery, Bullskin township, Fayette County, PA.

Although the tombstone that bears Jacob LAPE's name upon it does not include Susannah LAPE's name, its a wrong that needs to be righted. Susannah's name was not inscribed on the tombstone because the son's that buried her (AARON & FRANKLIN) didn't have enough money to pay for the inscription carving.

It's a documented fact evidenced by Susannah LAPE's official 1901 Westmoreland County Death Certificate that she died June 25, 1901 in Mt Pleasant, Westmoreland County, PA. and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Bullskin twp, Westmoreland County, PA.

ANCESTRY DATA JOHANN JACOB (ISRERAL LAPE) :
Jacob LAPE was one of twelve (12) children born of Johann Peter LAPE (1785-1853) and Margaretta Catherine Casebeer (1790-1852) from Somerset County, PA. Jacob Johann LAPE whose nickname was ISREAL (from the bible) was born in Bedford County, PA. on June 11, 1806. A hard working talented man, he'd take on any kind of day laborer work to earn money. Family stories passed on from generations past suggest Jacob and several of his brothers frequently picked fruit from many Somerset County farms, and in particular the farm of Susannah's dad (James LINT). Jacob met then Susannah while working for her father which started a long courtship. It's when Susannah, after many years agreed that the two married on February 15, 1831 in Somerset County.

Many years would pass when on day Jacob fell injuring himself. Becoming an invalid in his mid 50's with a limp, the severe hip and leg injuries that went untreated for weeks took toll upon Jacob's agility to work hard. As time progressed and he continued pushing his body he finally became inactive. Jacob was literally unable to do any kind of manual labor. Health & inactivity issues would eventually bring about his death on March 18, 1879.

Susannah LAPE would carry-on for many years after her husband's death seeking then receiving financial help from the US Government. Awarded a widow's/mother's pension due to her son James' death while in battle during the Civil War, the money received paid her bills. Susannah was able to maintain and keep ownership of the Mt. Pleasant home that her and Jacob had shared (even during her ailing elder years). As she aged and became frail, she'd often seek assistance and care from her children while living in one of their homes from time to time).

The LAPE home situated in Mt. Pleasant township, Fayette County, PA. was sold after Susannah's 1901 death and burial by her children AARON, Jonathan, Franklin and Nancy.

ANCESTRY DATA Suisannah LINT LAPE:
Susannah LAPE was born October 30, 1808 in Somerset County, PA. the daughter of Catherine (DARR) 1791-1858 and James LINT 1788-1875. Working since before she was 14 as a housekeeper for neighboring farmers, Susannah wanted her own life deciding one day after years of being courted by Jacob LAPE to accept his marriage proposal. It was on February 15, 1831 at age 23 that Susannah LINT united in marriage with Johann Jacob (Isreal) LAPE at her parent's Somerset home.

Within the course of their 40+ year marriage, the couple would conceive and parent eleven (11) children: Arma, Michael, Malissa, Jonathan, John, James, Aaron, Nancy, Henry, Franklin,, and David.

Arma LAPE md Samuel KOEMER
Michael LAPE 1823-1896 md Catherine PLANTS
Malissa LAPE 1831-1914 md Henry OWINGS

IKN CONCLUSION: Gregory Peter LANTAY's LAPE ancestry would end when Nancy Hannah LAPE married David Daniel DUNMEYER from Holsopple, Somerset County, PA. on January 18, 1855 in Bridgeport, Westmoreland County, PA.
