John Laps (Lape) was probably not a member of the Andries Lape family.Following is his application for Rev. War pension:
John Laps, Applicant:
I called on this old Enlistman on the 6th of August 1834(?) and from a long conversation with him I came to the conclusion that it is very probable that he was a Elder in the war of the revolution ---- his recollection of his service (if he -------)is exceedingly vague and indistinct. He has not the(distinct) recollection of the date of his service, the namesof his officers or orders or anything applicable
to the war, and yet he is not by any means demented--- he states in a sure term that he is a German by birth that he came to the United States from ------ -------- -----
after the war commenced, a Elder in the British army, landed at New York, was stationed at Kings ------ & from there deserted, went to Connecticut and then went ----- ------ for awhile and then Enlisted under Capt Bell for nine months and was stationed at Stamford Connecticut --- he alleges that he served at same place throughout the war --------- , ----- ------- ------- -------- ------- -------- was there any enlistment in Connecticut of this applicant.
